Frequently Asked Questions

Q. We are thinking about improving the outdoor areas where we live. Can you help us do this?

A. Yes. We will listen to your ideas, discuss them and present a conceptual plan that will best match your property’s potential and your desires.

Q. What do you need from us?

A. Plot Plan

  • If available, it is always helpful.

    Your desires and special needs

  • We need to discuss your ideas and make notes where they are pertinent to their
    locations on your property.

    Neighborhood Association

  • If you live in an area with a neighborhood association, and if that association has clearly defined guidelines or restrictions concerning improvements, we will need to know what those are. Knowledge of those criteria will assist us in planning your outdoor living space.

Q. Can we do anything we want to our property?

A. Yes and No. There are different governing boards that enforce guidelines and restrictions concerning improvements or additions to your home and surrounding property. For instance, if you want a concrete patio that will exceed the impervious* cover of your lot size, you may need to be willing to compromise size or type of materials used to meet impervious cover requirements. *Impervious surfaces are artificial structures, such as pavements and building roofs, which replace naturally pervious soil with impervious construction materials.

Q. What does Outdoor Living™ take into consideration when planning our outdoor living space?

A. After first paying careful attention to your desires, analyzing the layout of your property, reviewing pertinent requirements, property restrictions, regulations and getting a feel for your budget, we can work on your project plan. Our experience and expertise then allows us to present the best possible plan to you for the proposed project.

Q. Do you have a minimum size for the projects your company accepts?

A. We will consider a project of any size. Our primary expertise lies with projects at or exceeding  $15,000. A sum, which allows us to strategically plan your outdoor living area to its full effectiveness.

Q. Our property is very large and we want to improve our outdoor living areas in phases. What is the best way for us to do this?

A. Working a project in phases is not a problem. Having a detailed plan for all phases before starting is crucial. Critical items of infrastructure (drainage, electrical, gas, water, etc.) must not be overlooked. We understand plans may require modification between phases, but if the infrastructure requirements are in place a substantial amount of time and money will be saved.

Q. What are the benefits of using Outdoor Living™ for all our project needs?

A. By allowing us to be responsible for all aspects of your project, you are eliminating potential contractor problems that can and will arise. Our professionalism and expertise in total project management and creation of outdoor living spaces will save you time and money.

Q. What is the normal lead time required from start to finish?

A. Generally, we require 2 to 3 weeks for creation of a conceptual design, after our initial meeting. Followed by finalization of a schedule and budget. After breaking ground the time till completion varies. Factors to consider: Home Owner Associations, property variances, permit approval, rarity of materials being used, current workload, and weather conditions.

Q. Is there a "best time" to start our project?

A. In Central Texas any time is a good time. Extreme cold of winter can be an issue, but we seldom have cold weather last for more than a few days at a time. Summer is the hardest time for newly planted flowers, shrubs and plants. Planting is usually the last step in creating your outdoor living space and we will properly schedule to avoid harsh weather conditions.
